At the turn of the century, the Angels returned to Earth, seeking
to wipe out humanity in an apocalyptic fury. Devastated,

An excellent anime series... though the ending of the series is a bit confusing, it does promote some deep contemplations as to the writer's true meaning. The characters are so well developed through out the storyline that you will begin to feel they are friends (or not) after only a few mininutes and learn to love them after a episode or two.
The 12+ rating could be a bit steep for most anime viewers, as the mature situations are rather minor and the violence is nearly if not all bio-Mech (Evangelions) vs the Angels.
